Sending out a personal, hand-written thank-you note is not just good manners – it’s expected. Standard etiquette dictates that you should express your gratitude on a hand-written card within three months, though some sources say it’s acceptable to send thank-you notes out within one year of having received a wedding gift. We say, the sooner the better – within reason. The months surrounding a wedding are busy and everyone knows that, but try to discipline yourself to send out a few thank-you cards a day. If you pace yourself, you can be sure that friends and family will feel appreciated soon after having sent their gift. The key to making the process of sending out thank-you notes easy is having everything ready to go. First and foremost, create a beautiful personalized thank-you card with a sweet photo of the two of you. Part of writing a great thank-you note is making it feel personal, so if there’s already a photo of you on the card, you’re halfway there. All that’s left is expressing a few words of appreciation for the gift you’ve received – and how it will play into your happy life together. Then make sure you say thank you for having come to the wedding – especially if the guest or guests travelled a long way. That’s all it takes! As a general rule of thumb, order the same number of cards as guests at your wedding.
